IPWEA NSW appoints new President

IPWEA NSW and ACT elected their new 2020-2023 Board of Directors at the Annual General Meeting. Mr Grant Baker, Director Infrastructure Services at Blayney Shire Council was elected as the new IPWEA NSW and ACT President.

Grant has spent time working at Guyra Shire Council, Bathurst Regional Council and Blayney Shire Council where he has developed his leadership skills as part of the Executive team and as Departmental Director, delivering operational and capital programs, whilst expanding relationships within Government and the community.

When elected, Mr Baker said ‘Having been a member of the 2014 to 2017 Board and realising how amazing this community is, I’m honoured to be elected as your President. IPWEA is a family, the friendships, the experience, and the knowledge I have gained is why I want to be involved.’

‘I urge everyone to be part of IPWEA. It is incredibly satisfying both professionally and personally. Over the past 6 years, your institute has actively advocated to government on behalf of its members and your communities. This work has helped guide and inform the government on critical funding programs, training opportunities, and the Registration of Engineers. The level of understanding of what we do, what we have to offer and how we can advance Public Works has grown tremendously.’ Mr Baker said.

Mr Grant finished with ‘The past 12 months have been incredibly difficult for many of our members, as we face the tragedy of the 2019 bush fires, followed by multiple floods and the pandemic. As Public Works Engineers, you’re always developing or looking for solutions. Always remember that local government and the IPWEA family are tight knit and they will offer support where they can. I look forward to connecting and working with you all in the near future.’

IPWEA NSW and ACT welcome the new President and look forward to the next term.
