John Peacock AM

Chairman

John PeacockJohn is one of Australia’s most experienced advisors to associations and charities and is a thought leader for the associations sector. He is a regular national and international presenter, on matters essential to the governance and operations of associations, charities and other mutual bodies.

Since 2000, John has trained and consulted to hundreds of associations and charities, large and small, on strategic planning, governance, Board effectiveness, operations, restructuring, financial issues and external reviews.

His particular areas of specialisation are mergers of associations and developing association plans that can be translated into actions, budgets and job descriptions.

John’s work with associations was recognised in the 2021 Australia Day Honours List with his appointment as a Member (AM) of the Order of Australia (General Division) for significant service to the associations and not-for-profit sectors through a range of initiatives.

Philippa Shelley Jones

Board Director

John PeacockPhilippa Shelley Jones re-joined Associations Forum in May 2023 as a director on the board. Her previous involvement with the company was as Communications and Marketing Manager (May 2015 – Dec 2017), managing and implementing communication and marketing activities across multiple channels, and as Editor, Associations (May 2015 – Feb 2020), handling the end-to-end production of Associations Forum’s flagship print publication. Through these roles, Philippa gained valuable insight into the association sector. She has also facilitated, chaired and acted as MC at a number of Associations Forum events.

Philippa completed the Company Directors Course (Australian Institute of Company Directors) in 2017 and has been on the board of the Society of Australian Genealogists, an Associations Forum member, since May 2019.

Philippa holds a Bachelor of Arts (Psychology Major)/Bachelor of Laws and practiced as a litigation solicitor with Clayton Utz for ten years. She now researches, records, and curates life stories, memoirs and family histories through her business Record My Past.

Julian Ledger BSc, GAICD, JP

Board Director

Julian Ledger has served as an Association manager for over 40 years in WA and NSW. As the former CEO and Company Secretary of YHA Australia he guided its merger into a single national organisation. He has built a substantial ‘profit for purpose’ business and developed and operated a national chain of visitor accommodation including award winning properties.

He has served as a Board member of Tourism NSW (the forerunner of Destination NSW), was a founding Director of the Tourism Industry Council of NSW and a Director and past Chair of state and national youth tourism associations. He is a recipient of the Australian Tourism Award for outstanding contribution by an individual.

His experience includes governance, advocacy, financial management, strategic planning, restructuring, risk analysis, membership, marketing and branding. He is President of a local community action group and has held leadership roles in sporting associations.
