Treasurer green-lights virtual AGMs for companies
Treasurer Josh Frydenberg has granted Australian companies the ability to hold annual general meetings (AGMs) online for the next six months.
The changes will be in effect from 6 May 2020 and will allow companies - including many associations which are incorporated as companies limited by guarantee - to convene annual general meetings, and other meetings prescribed under the Corporations Act, entirely online rather than face-to-face.
The changes will also give businesses certainty that when company officers sign a document electronically, the document has been validly executed.
