ASHM Conference & Events Division receives prestigious Meetings & Events Industry Award

The Conference & Events Division of ASHM has been awarded the National Meetings & Events Australia (MEA) Award for “In-House Meetings Management Department”. The Award highlights the professional quality of work being done by Meeting Managers working in-house in associations, government and corporations.

"It's wonderful that Australia’s meetings and events industry is giving public recognition to the enormous amount of work in-house conference departments do for their organisations and their relationship to the events sector. This award demonstrates that we have skills and expertise on a par with other Professional Conference Organisers (PCOs),” says Nadine Giatras, Division Manager of ASHM Conference & Events Division.

ASHM is a not-for-profit peak body representing health professionals working in HIV, viral hepatitis and sexual health. Since 2003 it has run its annual Australasian HIV & AIDS Conference in-house. The Conference & Events Division of ASHM has a unique business model whereby it offers conference management services to other like-minded organisations in the health sector in addition to running its own annual conference.

The professionalism of the team is maintained through strong ties with the meetings industry, ensuring staff are kept up to date with the latest knowledge and products. The model has proven to be extremely successful, and the team now have over 60 national and international conferences and events under their belt and two MEA Accredited Meetings Managers overseeing the work. Services range from bespoke services such as specialist media consultancy and equipment and staff hire to complete management for both large conferences and small meetings.

“We are extremely proud to see that professionalism in the not-for-profit sector is being recognised in other areas and that we can deliver this excellent service to others,” says ASHM CEO, Levinia Crooks. “The team certainly deserves this win and we hope it will serve to encourage other in-house departments to be part of the meetings industry.”
