Scott Veenker to lead Committee for Melbourne

Following the merger of two advocacy bodies, Scott Veenker will take the reins as Chief Executive of the Committee for Melbourne. The Melbourne Chamber of Commerce and Committee for Melbourne recently joined to become the City’s leading advocacy body. The Victorian Chamber and the Committee have appointed Scott Veenker as the inaugural Chief Executive of the newly merged bodies, effective immediately.

With that transition underway, as part of the process MCC is being renamed the Committee, sitting under the umbrella of the Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Mr Veenker, most recently the MCC Chief Executive, will head up the top membership category of the Victorian Chamber, while former Committee Chief Executive Mark Melvin will remain with the Victorian Chamber in a senior capacity and will initially be a key adviser across the wider business, including a focus on the Committee integration. Both will report into Victorian Chamber Chief Executive Paul Guerra.

Mr Veenker has successfully steered the MCC for the last three years, navigating a post-COVID environment and challenging economic conditions. He has more than 20 years’ experience in banking and finance. The merger combines the strengths, expertise and resources of two proud organisations, enabling a greater ability to shape and affect policy in a key number of areas such as housing, infrastructure, business attraction and the broader economy.

MCC branding will progressively evolve to Committee branding over the coming weeks and months.

Mr Veenker said: “I’m thrilled to take the Committee for Melbourne into the next exciting era, with an amplified voice. We will continue to advocate for the best possible outcomes for business and support members through our extensive membership offering.

“I thank Mark Melvin for his continued contributions to Melbourne’s business community and look forward to working together to serve our members.”

With Melbourne already Australia’s largest city and set to reach a population of six million, the bodies believed it was the right time to work closely together, driven by shared values and goals to see one united vision that benefits all Victorians and industry sectors.

The Victorian Chamber will continue to represent business across the State.

Mr Guerra said: “Scott has a proven track record of understanding the needs of Melbourne’s business community. His leadership will take the Committee for Melbourne to new heights, influencing local, state and federal governments to affect policy and exchange ideas to lead Victorian business into the future.

“Memberships now represent better value than ever as the merger combines the expertise, strengths and resources of these two proud organisations.

“I’m also delighted that Mark Melvin will continue with the Chamber, and his wealth of experience and leadership will help us further the great work of the Chamber. I expect both Scott and Mark to be brilliant contributors into the future.”
