OnBoard has released Is Your Board Ready for AI?, a free five-minute assessment that scores a board across six dimensions of AI governance and returns two model board AI policies reviewed by general counsel, one conservative and one written for boards further along.

The 2026 Board Effectiveness Survey, covered in last month’s newsletter, put numbers on why the policies are the useful part. Of the 531 governance professionals surveyed, 92% had seen directors use AI on board work in the previous six months. Six per cent sat on a board with an enforced policy covering it. Boards that had one rated themselves 32 points more effective.

Most secretariats already know they need the policy. The blank page is where it stalls, and on an association board there is rarely an in-house lawyer to hand it to. Director groups turn over, digital confidence varies widely across them, and the person who ends up drafting the AI policy is usually the same person writing the minutes.

The assessment also returns a plain-language explanation of how private endpoints, data isolation and audit trails work, written for secretariats who get asked by members where board information goes, and a governance FAQ on meeting recordings.
