Partner News | CASE STUDY – The infrastructure investment helping grow association business
Published on Tuesday, 1 September 2026
Choosing a conference destination isn't only about finding a room big enough for delegates. Associations are weighing delegate experience, sponsorship potential, and a venue with future-ready technology that can help them tell their story and bring their overall vision to life. It's a demanding brief, and increasingly, associations are finding the answer at Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre (GCCEC).
Over the past few years, GCCEC has invested in a series of infrastructure upgrades designed specifically to meet that brief: a striking new highway sign and expanded foyer screens that create a high-impact arrival experience, upgraded digital wayfinding that reinforces event branding at every turn, and industry-leading laser projection for sharper visual consistency. That investment extends outside the building too, with 240 metres of customisable LED awning lighting that enables associations to light the precinct in their own colours, and a new rollout of WiFi 6 to keep pace with the connectivity today's event apps and delegates demand.
The result speaks for itself. In the last financial year, associations accounted for almost 40 per cent of all business events held at GCCEC, with organisers consistently acknowledging that the investment has elevated their events.
“These upgrades are about giving associations a bigger visual stage, not a bigger checklist,” says Kerri Brown, GCCEC Executive Manager of Marketing and Communications. “We wanted the building itself to help tell their story from the moment delegates arrive.”
For associations, the appeal goes beyond infrastructure alone. It's the combination of a flexible, purpose-built venue, decades of association-specific delivery expertise, and a Gold Coast destination that gives members a genuine reason to attend that continues to set GCCEC apart.
