Wellington is the compact, connected capital of New Zealand. The city offers excellent flight access, impressive venues, key government and industry leaders, and a vibrant hub of dining and entertainment within easy reach. It makes hosting conferences easy for organisers, and offers a fresh perspective for delegates. Wellington is the seat of New Zealand Government and headquarters for many central government agencies and industry associations. It’s not surprising that there are strong advocates of progress, change, and improvement.

Tākina Wellington Convention & Exhibition Centre opened its doors in June 2023, significantly boosting Wellington’s capacity to host large events. With 10,000sqm of flexible plenary and exhibition space over two floors, the centre can be tailored to large conferences of up to 1600 delegates using both floors or two conferences running concurrently each using a floor exclusively.

Inspired by Wellington’s dramatic landscape, Tākina means “to invoke”. It reflects the nation’s capital as a place where people meet to connect, share ideas, and advance their fields.

There is lots of choice for accommodation, with over 4,000 hotel rooms all within a short walk from Tākina and the city’s other conference venues. There are five-star hotels with harbour views, as well as laidback, budget-friendly options.

But what often surprises planners is how easy it is to fly into Wellington. There are more than 50 direct return flights every week between Wellington and Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and the Gold Coast. Upon arrival, it’s only a short trip from Wellington International Airport to the city’s venues and hotels.

Ashley Clemmett, organiser of The Advantage Conference held at Tākina in September, highlighted the ease of access from various Australian locations. “Having direct flights into Wellington made it so easy for our delegates to come here,” he noted.
