Geospatial Council of Australia enters Liquidation

The Geospatial Council of Australia (GCA) has officially entered liquidation, with the process commencing on Thursday, 21 August. The announcement marks the end of a challenging period for the national body, which has represented and supported Australia’s geospatial professionals for years.

Following its entry into Administration on Monday, 26 May, the GCA Board, together with appointed Administrators and the broader geospatial community, made extensive efforts to secure a sustainable future for the organisation. Despite these efforts, no viable path forward was found.

The SID 2025 event held in Adelaide will proceed as planned and will be the organisation’s final event. With the appointment of liquidators from RSM Australia, the process of winding up the organisation’s affairs is now underway.

RSM Australia will continue to work closely with the GCA Board and key industry stakeholders to explore options for preserving valuable member services, certification programs, and national events under a new structure or host organisation.

The GCA Board expressed deep sadness and disappointment over the closure and extended their heartfelt thanks to members and the wider community for their support throughout this difficult period. The Board also paid tribute to the staff, both past and present, who have remained committed to delivering high-quality services to members and advancing the profession.

Many of the GCA’s dedicated staff had served since before the merger that originally formed the Council, and the Board acknowledged their long-standing commitment and contributions to the industry.

Appreciation was also extended to corporate members, partners, and stakeholders whose ongoing engagement and support helped sustain the Council’s work over the years.

While the GCA’s operations are coming to an end, the Board expressed confidence in the strength and resilience of the geospatial community. They noted that the industry is full of passionate and skilled individuals who will continue to advance the profession and share their expertise well into the future.
