An Unforgettable Evening: National Conference Dinner at the Iconic MCG

In April 2025 the MCG welcomed delegates of the National Associations Forum Conference, playing host to 350 representatives of various associations across Australia and overseas, in what was a ‘truly memorable evening’ according to Associations Forum CEO, John Peacock.
“The MCG has frequently been a popular choice for associations in search of a ‘quintessentially Melbourne’ event experience” says MCG Events Director of Sales & Marketing Troy Stasinowsky. “However this year we looked to raise the bar – aiming to totally ‘reimagine’ the traditional conference dinner experience.”
“Our choice this year was to host our conference in Melbourne, it’s a wonderful city for events” continued Mr Peacock “The MCG is so iconic and it was really very special for our delegates to come here”.
Reimagining What’s Possible
Delegates were treated to an immersive experience of sight, taste and sound, across multiple spaces in the newly refurbished Olympic Stand. “Many (delegates) were in awe of the MCG, and raved about the food” according to Ash – Associations Forum Sponsorship & Events Officer
Arriving in Style
On arrival delegates were greeted and guided a short escalator trip to the new (opened in 2024) Betty Cuthbert Bar for networking drinks and cocktails, followed by a delicious collection of entree tasting stations resembling a local market in the adjoining and newly redeveloped Betty Cuthbert Lounge. Various options including fresh Australian seafood platters, charcutier boards and cocktail service with a fun twist across two refreshed spaces in the MCG left the “huge crowd impressed” says Ash.
The Main Event
Upon entering the redeveloped Olympic Room, delegates greeted a space that – for those who have visited previously – would have been decidedly unfamiliar in it’s custom decor, while still providing a captivating view of the iconic stadium. Set against the awe-inspiring backdrop of the MCG by night, with custom branded scoreboards and new LED lights reflecting across the turf, multiple stages were set up between the 350 seats, with entertainment including tap dancers and saxophone artists roaming from stage to stage.
The lighting, decor and overall audio-visual experience led by MCG Events’ partner Encore created a unique ‘Manhattan by-night’ feel. Delegates enjoyed an A La Carte menu showcasing Victoria’s Best produce, including Handmade Ricotta Gnocchi, Charred Southern Ranges Fillet, and other premium dishes – a significant departure from typical conference fare.
A Reimagined Experience From Beginning to End
Following dinner and dessert, guests returned to the Betty Cuthbert Bar for live entertainment, dancing and cocktails.
“This has been a night people are going to remember for a long time” continued Mr Peacock, CEO of Associations Forum.
“We’ve had the opportunity to bring delegates from all across Australia, and even the United States, England and New Zealand to enjoy something so distinctly Melbourne – a spectacular night at an iconic venue.”
