CAUL expands horizons: Council of Australian University Librarians becomes Council of Australasian University Librarians

Following the adoption of changes to the Constitution at a Special General Meeting in late 2024, the Council of Australian University Librarians (CAUL) has officially become the Council of Australasian University Librarians (CAUL), effective immediately. This change reflects CAUL’s commitment to a more inclusive and unified approach across Oceania with a singlemembership class for University librarians throughout the region. All Members have equal status and opportunity to contribute, participate in and benefit from CAUL governance, programs and services.
Nicole Clark, Chair of the CAUL Board, remarked, 'This is an exciting milestone in our history. By embracing a more inclusive approach, we are strengthening our collective ability to support and advocate for university libraries across the Australasian region. We look forward to the opportunities this change brings and the continued collaboration between our Members from Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand.'
While the acronym stays the same, as part of this transition, CAUL will work towards a rebrand, with the existing branding remaining in place until further notice.
We congratulate the Council for embracing this significant change and look forward to this exciting new chapter for the organisation, its Members, and the broader university library community.
