ACCPA welcomes appointment of new Chair
The Aged and Community Care Providers Association (ACCPA) warmly welcomes the appointment of incoming Independent Chair, Michael (Mick) Reid AM, who will shortly step into the role following the dedicated service of ACCPA’s inaugural Chairman Dr Graeme Blackman AO. Mr Reid’s appointment follows a comprehensive, external recruitment process led by a sub-committee of board members chaired by Geraldine Lannon, BaptCare CEO and ACCPA Deputy Chair. His appointment was endorsed by ACCPA’s Board of Directors, who highlighted Mr Reid’s extensive experience and significant leadership roles over many years.
Mr Reid was Director General of Health in two Australian states. For five years until 2002, he held the position of Director General of New South Wales Health. Until 2011, he spent three years as Director General of Queensland Health. Between 2004 and 2007 he was the Director General of the Ministry for Science and Medical Research in New South Wales. He is an Adjunct Professorship at both the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Sydney and the School of Science and Health at the University of Western Sydney and is an Honorary Fellow of the Australian College of Nursing.
“It’s a great honour to be appointed Chair of ACCPA, especially at a time when such profound reform promises to change the way we deliver care and support to older Australians,” Mr Reid said.
“ACCPA has shown the way for the aged care sector since its inception, helping to shape reforms for the benefit of all Australians. Together we can build a sector we can all be proud of.”
Mr Reid will officially commence his duties as ACCPA’s Independent Chair at the conclusion of ACCPA’s 2024 Annual General Meeting (AGM) on 19 November 2024. ACCPA would also like to acknowledge the pioneering work of our current Chairman Dr Graeme Blackman AO. Dr Blackman commenced as ACCPA’s Independent Chairman on 3 May 2022. His tenure concludes following ACCPA’s AGM.
“Being inaugural Chairman of ACCPA has been one of the most challenging and rewarding chapters of my career,” Dr Blackman said.
“I am immensely proud to stand at the forefront of a sector that has demonstrated exceptional leadership during these transformative times.”
“At ACCPA, we embrace the concept that ‘change is the only constant’, and I have seen this organisation grow from strength to strength.”
ACCPA CEO Tom Symondson welcomed Mr Reid’s appointment and thanked Dr Blackman for his service to ACCPA and the aged care sector.
“We warmly welcome Mr Reid to the ACCPA Board of Directors. Our Board, our members, and the broader aged care sector will greatly benefit from his vast experience and expertise,” Mr Symondson said.
“On behalf of the ACCPA Board of Directors, Executive Leadership Team, staff, and members, I would also like to thank Dr Blackman for his outstanding contributions to the aged care sector as ACCPA’s inaugural Independent Chairman.”
“Dr Blackman has been a true leader in the aged care sector during a time of vast transformation. His guidance, counsel and intellect have been invaluable to us at ACCPA from our very beginnings.”
