SAG appoints new Executive Officer

The Society of Australian Genealogists has welcomed Ruth Graham as its new Executive Officer.

Ms Graham became interested in genealogy when as a child she wondered why there were so few around the table for Christmas dinner and continuous family speculation regarding which women her great-grandfather had actually married.

Ms Graham has pursued this interest which has complemented her management roles in academic professional services roles at some of the leading educational institutions of Australia and the United Kingdom.

"I am thrilled to be working for the Society of Australian Genealogists which has been a thriving community of family historians in Australia since 1932," said Ms Graham.

"Researching family history has been increasingly made more accessible in recent years with the advent of online resources and records. I look forward to furthering the Society’s mission to educate and support our members to navigate this world and share their stories of discovery."

Ms Graham has worked in the education sector for over twenty-five years across medical, business, ICT and humanities disciplines in the United Kingdom and Australia.

These roles have involved professional development, strategic and operational leadership in research management, curriculum development, quality assurance, online education, IT project implementation, and research engagement assessment.

In her last role as Faculty Research Manager for the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at the University of Sydney, Ms Graham was awarded one of the inaugural Vice-Chancellor’s Awards for Excellence in 2016: Outstanding Contribution to Research Excellence.

She is passionate about family history, uncovering new ancestors and connecting with those with the same enthusiasm.
