NEW ANMAC CEO APPOINTED

The Australian Nursing & Midwifery Accreditation Council (ANMAC) has announced the appointment of Adjunct Professor John Kelly AM to the role of Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

Board Chairperson, Professor Wendy Cross said following a national search for a CEO, ANMAC was delighted to announce that Professor Kelly would take up the role from 21 November 2022.

“Professor Kelly has been involved in global and national governance and regulation within the health sector, and in nursing & midwifery in particular, for an extensive period. This has included the accreditation of courses and the assessment of practitioners in nursing & midwifery,” Professor Cross said.

“His strong leadership skills, including his clinical, management and consulting background in the health and aged care sectors will help ANMAC continue its mission in delivering evidence based standards for the accreditation of education programmes for nurses and midwives and determining the capability of internationally qualified nurses and midwives to practice in the Australian context.

Professor Cross said Professor Kelly’s legal and advocacy experience would also be important at this vital time for our organisation.

“The consideration of workforce issues and quality standards are at a critical core of ANMAC’s work on behalf of the community. I am looking forward to working with the dedicated and committed staff to improve these quality outcomes,” Professor Kelly said. Professor Kelly takes over the position from Clinical Professor Fiona Stoker, who has led ANMAC for the past 8 years. Professor Cross said ANMAC thanked Professor Stoker for her leadership and contribution to ANMAC.
