CDSFA Celebrates 100 Years of Football
The Canterbury District Soccer Football Association will celebrate an incredible 100 years of football in Season 2022, a year that is shaping up to the biggest yet in the Association’s proud history.
The Canterbury & District Soccer Football Association (CDSFA) was established in 1922 and began operations in 1923 and has gone onto to become one of the biggest Associations in New South Wales.
With over 16,500 registered players and competing in competitions that cater for under-6s right up to over-45s, CDSFA has a proud track record of delivering football in a culturally diverse and vibrant environment, in partnership with its (23) member clubs.
Vastly experienced CDSFA CEO Ian Holmes said the centenary would make the upcoming season a landmark occasion for the Association and everyone associated with it.
“Season 2022 marks a remarkable milestone for the CDSFA. It is the Centenary competition season for the Association,” he said.
“One must wonder if the founders envisaged the Association as it is today. Multi-cultural, inclusive and a major community body contributing to building a cohesive society.
“It is testimony to the dedication of the thousands of volunteers that have sustained the CDSFA across ten complete decades and allowed it to deliver football to the local community.”
To mark the occasion, the CDSFA will be holding a Centenary Media Launch on January 24 at Rudd Park, Belfield and a Centenary Gala Dinner on May 28 at La Montage, Lilyfield, as well as many more events to be announced and planned during the year.
The CDSFA has set up designated social media profiles on Facebook and Instagram for its Centenary celebrations, where past and present members can get the latest updates on happenings around the association.
With the Association having racked up 100 years of experience delivering outstanding football environments, returning and new players can be assured that playing football within the CDSFA is a rewarding experience for boys and girls alike.
With the Association’s growth in recent years attributable in large part to the growing number of girls playing the game, the CDSFA is continuing to work hard to provide safe and inclusive environments for female footballers.
Trudy Burke, Female Football Development Officer at CDSFA said that continuing to encourage the growth of women’s football was a big goal for the association.
“2022 is set to be a big year for female football with the FWWC23 on the horizon. The Association is preparing a range of programs and events to not only engage as many female participants as possible but to celebrate the role women and girls play in our football community.”
