Australian Scholarships Limited is delighted to announce Dr. Melinda Muth as our new Chair.
The Australian Scholarships Foundation, which operates under the registered charity Australian Scholarships Limited (ASL), develops leaders for a better society by enabling professional development opportunities and thought leadership to increase the effectiveness of not-for-profit organisations.
The ASL directors were unanimous in appointing Dr. Muth, and the Australian Scholarships Foundation’s Chief Executive Officer, Louisa Graham, has welcomed Dr. Muth to the position. ”Melinda is immensely qualified to lead the board as Chair,” Ms Graham said.
“She is a qualified educator, facilitator and board advisor and has made a major contribution to the Australian Scholarships Foundation as both a board member and a voluntary assessment panel member.
“We’re very grateful for the expertise Melinda brings and look forward to her leadership in this next chapter of our growth.”
Dr. Muth said the Australian Scholarships Foundation has a significant role to play as change-makers in the not-for-profit sector, fostering leadership capabilities to strengthen the community’s collective performance.
“The importance of the ‘human factor’ was highlighted during the COVID-19 crisis, when not-for-profits delivered measurable value, mobilising rapidly to lessen the pandemic’s pressures and support people in need,” she said.
“The Australian Scholarships Foundation’s role in developing leaders for a better society has never been more important.
“Our focus on professional development opportunities and thought leadership to increase the effectiveness of not-for-profit organisations is increasingly important for a better society.
“I thank our outgoing Chair, Professor Stephen Garton, for his leadership and look forward to continuing to work with Louisa Graham and the board on our next chapter of growth.”
Professor Stephen Garton said: “The sector faces ongoing challenges and increased need for their services with the continuing effects of the pandemic and the rising cost of living. Melinda has the expertise, experience and passion to lead the Australian Scholarships Foundation to support not-for-profit organisations during these difficult times.”
Ms Graham also thanked Professor Garton.
“We’re very grateful for the work of Professor Garton as our acting Chair since the departure of Professor David Gilchrist in November. It is a testament to the Australian Scholarships Foundation’scritical work that we can attract leaders of such high calibre, who so generously donate their time to support our important work.”
In addition to her role as Chair of the Australian Scholarships Foundation, Melinda Muth has roles as a director of Harvard Club Australia Philanthropy, a Facilitator and Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) and a Specialist Advisor with Peakstone Global. She is also Managing Director of executive training provider Streamwise Learning.
Dr. Muth has advised, researched and facilitated in leadership development, team effectiveness and organisational culture for more than 25 years. Her governance experience includes director roles with CuriousWorks, HeartKids NSW, the Quest Foundation, the Union, University & Schools Club and Indigenous Community Volunteers, where she was Chair of the Audit & Risk Management Committee.
