Margot Smith appointed new CEO for the RSL & Services Clubs Association

Following his intention to retire from his position with the RSL & Services Clubs Association in November, CEO Garrie Gibson confirmed his departure after more than seven years in the role. Since receiving this advice, the Board has been engaged in managing the recruitment of a new CEO.

They are pleased to advise that, after an extensive process, the Board has appointed Margot Smith to be the next CEO of the Association.

Margot has worked in member bodies for almost 15 years, for Chartered Accountants, Law Society of England and Wales, Finsia, Governance Institute and the Institute of Managers and Leaders (formerly the Australian Institute of Management). Interspersed throughout her roles in associations, Margot has also worked at Optus, Scholastic, Ausgrid and LexisNexis in a range of events, marketing and community engagement roles. Margot has extensive volunteer, fundraising and mentoring experience, and has a real passion for giving back. Margot holds a Bachelor of Arts (Psychology & Education), a Graduate Diploma in Business Administration (Management), an Advanced Diploma in Events, a certified Chief Happiness Officer, a Certificate IV in Training & Assessment, a Certificate in Governance and has undertaken the Company Directors Course. A big advocate of the RSL & Service Clubs industry, outside of lockdown, you’ll often find her having a coffee or meal in her local Club.

The Board welcomes Margot to this important role and looks forward to her extensive experience in member-based organisations and services being applied to our Association. Margot will join with Garrie for a month’s transition from 11th October. Garrie will be finishing on Friday 12th November, from when Margot will take full responsibility. Member Club representatives will get the opportunity to meet Margot at the Annual General Meeting via Zoom, to be held on Friday 22nd October at 11.00am.
