New CEO for Australasian Sleep Association

The Australasian Sleep Association has announced the appointment of Marcia Balzer as Chief Executive Officer, commencing in January 2020. She will be replacing Stephanie Blower, who will be stepping down from the position, after 20 years in February 2020.

Ms Balzer has spent her career working in not-for-profit organisations in marketing, communications and management roles. Most recently she led a peak body for community service organisations providing services in aged care, disability support, community housing, and helping children and families. Prior to that, she spent nine years as a senior executive with the Australian Veterinary Association leading their communication and public affairs programs.

Ms Balzer has an honours degree in music, postgraduate qualifications in communication, is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and has served on two not-for-profit boards as a non-executive director.

“I’m very excited to be joining forces with the Australasian Sleep Association, and am looking forward to meeting all the members and volunteers who have built such a strong and successful professional association," said Ms Balzer.

“I am really pleased to be handing over the reins to such an experienced and competent person.  I look forward to following the ever-growing success of the Association over the coming years under her guidance," said outgoing CEO Stephanie Blower.
