Business NSW CEO departs

Business NSW CEO, Stephen Cartwright, has announced that he will be leaving his position at the end of August after 11 years as the leader of the state’s peak business organisation.

“I have been discussing this change with the Chairman for some time, and we both agree that, after 11 very successful years, and with the transformation from the NSW Business Chamber to Business NSW and Business Australia now complete, this is the right time to hand over to a successor to take the organisation on the next phase of its journey,” Mr Cartwright said.

“It has been an honour and a privilege to lead this organisation for the past 11 years, and I am immensely proud of all that has been achieved over that period.

“Anyone who knows me knows of my love for sport, and the sports people I admire most are those who retire at the top of their game, having won everything there is to win, and I always feel sorry for the ones who play on for one season too long. You should always go out at the top of your game and under your own terms.

“The organisation has a very talented and dedicated Leadership Team who will ensure that our history of success continues well into the future. I leave with no regrets, and I wish the members, the staff and everyone connected with the Chamber movement every success and fulfilment in the future,” Mr Cartwright said.

Chairman, Lyall Gorman, has paid tribute to Mr Cartwright’s contribution to the organisation.

“Stephen has left an indelible mark, not only on this organisation but most importantly on improving the operating environment for the business community throughout NSW.

“His legacy will remain well into the future, especially among our regional members who he passionately advocated for to make sure that their contribution to our communities was never forgotten by decision makers at a Federal, State and Local level.

“The Board of Directors, Council and staff of the organisation thank Stephen for his leadership over the last 11 years and wish him all the very best in the future. “The immediate past President, Nola Watson will be appointed as interim Chief Executive Officer while a comprehensive search is undertaken by the Board for a permanent replacement. Nola’s history of successful executive leadership in business and government as well as her deep knowledge of the organisation."
