ADASA appoints new President

The Australian Dental Association SA Branch (ADASA) has appointed Dr Angelo Papageorgiou as its President for 2020.

Dr Papageorgiou, a Fellow of the Academy Dentistry Internationale since 2004 and most recently recognized as a Fellow of the Pierre Fauchard Academy, brings diverse experience across the dental industry to the position, having practiced in the public and private sectors, as well in academics as a final year tutor at the University of Adelaide Dental School.

He has also held numerous senior executive roles within associations at both state and federal levels, including Treasurer of the Australian Society of Endodontology, ADASA PR Committee Chairman and Spokesman and ADASA Vice President.

Dr Papageorgiou replaces Dr Alan Mann, who will sit as ADASA Immediate Past President.

ADASA Chief Executive Dan Pawlyk said Dr Papageorgiou would make a valuable contribution to the Association in 2020.

“As the only body devoted to representing the needs of South Australian dentists, ADASA is committed to advancing the science and practice of dentistry in the state,” Mr Pawlyk said.

“We’re delighted to appoint someone of Angelo’s caliber and are very confident his enthusiasm and passion for dentistry will be a major asset as we work to achieve this.”

Dr Papageorgiou said he was thrilled to be appointed to the role.

“It is a great honour to be the new President of an organisation that has a real impact on people throughout the community,” Dr Papageorgiou said.

“Good oral health is essential to maintaining good general health, and I am looking forward to working with ADASA staff, members, supporters and the wider community as we take action to improve oral health outcomes for all.”

Dr Papageorgiou also paid tribute to Immediate Past President Dr Alan Mann.

“On behalf of the ADASA Council, I’d like to thank Alan for his leadership and enormous contribution to dentistry in the state. During his term as President, Alan enabled ADASA to expand its services to members and play a crucial advocacy role for the South Australian dental community.”

Dr Papageorgiou begins his term effective immediately.
