Governance Institute of Australia has appointed Ms Megan Motto as its new Chief Executive Officer. Megan will commence in January 2019.

Governance Institute President, Warren Baillie said the board is delighted that Megan Motto is joining the organisation. Megan is the former Chief Executive Officer of Consult Australia. Megan is on the boards of Standards Australia and the Committee for Economic Development of Australia (CEDA).

“Megan is well known and highly respected in the business community. Megan’s significant Chief Executive experience, her executive leadership capabilities and vision for Governance Institute will go a long way in ensuring that the Institute achieves its ambitious governance agenda,” Mr Baillie said.

“We are confident that with Megan’s leadership, Governance Institute can successfully encourage a greater commitment to good governance across a much broader cross-section of our community,” Mr Baillie continued.

Megan Motto said she was excited to be leading Australia’s pre-eminent organisation for promoting excellence in the practice of governance, saying, “I am privileged to have the opportunity to lead this important organisation at a crucial point in its growth.  This comes at a time in Australian public affairs when there is so much focus on the importance of good governance in delivering fair and equitable outcomes for consumers and citizens across all sectors.”

“My primary goals are to ensure that we continue to provide value to our members and customers, enhancing their capacity as governance professionals, and to build on our position as the leading voice on governance in Australia.”

"World-class governance practice and performance is vital for the success of our business and community organisations and for the prosperity of our society. Governance Institute plays a vital role, through its advocacy and thought leadership, in ensuring Australia has the most effective policy and regulatory framework to achieve that, as well as educating and supporting governance professionals to be the best they can be,” Ms Motto concluded.

“Meegan George has done a tremendous job as Acting Chief Executive and we thank her for her strong leadership. Ms George has led Governance Institute as Acting Chief Executive since September 2018 and will continue to do so until Ms Motto commences, at which time she will resume her role as Chief Commercial Officer,” concluded Mr Baillie.
