Associations Forum's CEO & Chair Symposium 2016

The InterContinental Sanctuary Cove Resort in Queensland was the ideal retreat for this year’s CEO & Chair Symposium, which attracted over 90 attendees from all over Australia and New Zealand.

Held on 4-5 February 2016, the program tackled a wide range of topics vital to CEOs and Chairs, from the state of the economy and high performing Boards to transforming an association through a crisis. The relationship between the CEO and Chair was discussed, with the CEOs and Chairs of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand and Australian Medical Association, during a panel discussion, sharing their insights on what makes an effective CEO and Board relationship.

Chief Economist at Coles and former Economic Adviser to Prime Minister John Howard, Peter Crone, opened this year’s CEO & Chair Symposium with a relevant and informative presentation on the state of the economy.  Mr Crone was praised for his ability to interpret and translate the relevance of economic trends to various industries and professions as well as his ability to challenge the way delegates thought about these trends.

During the closing session Senator Sam Dastyari gave an informative and engaging dialogue to delegates about the political landscape.  A number of delegates commented on the Senator’s enthusiasm and willingness to rise above political affiliation as he shared his insights on how associations can get results with politicians.

“We were delighted with the success of the event and the significant increase in Chairs attending this year,” said General Manager of Associations Forum, John Peacock. “Delegates were able to engage in interesting and stimulating discussions, and came away with valuable takeaways and connections.”
