New Board Member for beyondblue
Jeff Kennett, beyondblue Chairman, has announced that former Prime Minister Julia Gillard has accepted the invitation to join the Board of beyondblue as a Director.
“We are particularly honoured that Julia Gillard has seen fit to join our organisation as we continue to serve those in the community suffering depression and anxiety and who are at risk of suicide,” Mr Kennett said.
He said Ms Gillard’s appointment was suitable due to her support for and work to establish the National Disability Scheme (NDS) and that the NDS could be the most important social reform of the century if it was professionals and compassionately introduced.
Much of beyondblue’s success has been attributed to the bi-partisan support from politicians and governments it has received since it began in 2000.
“Ms Gillard’s appointment only reinforces that bi-partisanship,” said Mr Bennett.
Ms Gillard said she was looking forward to contributing to the mental health sector and tackling the challenges mental health brought to the community. Her first beyondblue Board meeting will be in February 2015.
