Diabetes Queensland CEO among the state's top women leaders
Diabetes Queensland CEO and diabetes champion Michelle Trute has been recognised as one of Queensland's most influential women. Ms Trute joins her Excellency Governor-General Quentin Bryce, former Queensland Premier Anna Bligh and former Lord Mayor of Brisbane Sally Anne Atkinson in the honour list of YWCA Queensland's top 125 women leaders in the state.
In 2013 YWCA Queensland celebrates 125 years working with and for women and girls throughout Queensland providing advocacy, programs and services.
Ms Trute was recognised in YWCA Queensland's honour list for her contribution to her community championing the cause of diabetes for her entire career.
"I'm proud to be nominated alongside such an esteemed list of women who have all been agents of such positive change for our state," said the CEO.
"The recognition of my leadership, and the work of Diabetes Queensland, is such an honour."
''I am so passionate about advocating for better support to people with diabetes and those at risk. I am privileged to be a champion for people with diabetes. The reality is that diabetes is the fastest growing chronic disease in Australia and we need action to address this growing epidemic affecting so many Queenslanders," she said.
Diabetes Queensland has undergone rapid growth across all areas of the business under Ms Trute's leadership and this has been recognised by her peers in the Telstra Business Women awards and when she was awarded the prestigious "Not for Profit Manager of the Year" for the Management Excellence Awards by the Australian Institute of Management.
Ms Trute brings a wealth of knowledge and business experience to Diabetes Queensland across a number of disciplines. She has actively championed the cause for people with diabetes all her career, living with family members with type 1 and type 2 diabetes and herself diagnosed with gestational diabetes.
More recently, Ms Trute was invited to attend Harvard University where she was identified in the highly competitive "Performance Measurement for Highly Effective not for profits " and had the opportunity to show case some of the work that Diabetes Queensland has been able to achieve of late in the endeavor to improve the lives of people living with diabetes.
