Disciplining members can be one of the most challenging aspects of running an association or charity. This webinar will provide a legal framework for handling member misconduct, ensuring your processes are fair, transparent, and compliant with your constitution and applicable laws.

Topics will include:
        • Understanding your constitution’s disciplinary provisions.
        • Key principles of natural justice and procedural fairness.
        • Practical steps for conducting disciplinary hearings.
        • Avoiding common legal pitfalls and minimising reputational risk.

Join us for this two-hour session to gain the tools and confidence to address member misconduct while maintaining the integrity of your association.

ABOUT THE PRESENTERS

Kathy Nguyen, Senior Lawyer, Governology

Kathy has extensive experience working with associations both nationally and in the Asia-Pacific, on association structure, operations and governance. She has reviewed hundreds of constitutions, and regularly presents to organisations on membership, governance and events. Kathy has worked for Associations Forum, the Governance Institute of Australia, Ernst & Young, the Trade Association Forum in London and for the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. Kathy holds Bachelors of Laws & Business.

Claire Hewat, Associations Advisor, Associations Forum

Claire has over 20 years’ experience in senior executive positions including two successful roles as a CEO at Dietitians Australia and Allied Health Professions Australia. Claire has also had substantial non-executive governance experience on four national and one international board. She has extensive experience in professional self-regulation and is currently chair of the Ethics Review Committee for an Australian allied health profession.

Claire has used her experience to provide support and mentoring to other NFP CEOs and boards in areas of governance, strategic planning, complaints and disciplinary processes, change management and more.
