Planning Days

Holding a Planning Day is one of the best ways to refocus and re-energise your organisation. Planning in the context of an association or charity needs to be practical, straightforward and provide a guide for future Board meeting agendas.

Our consultants at Associations Forum have extensive knowledge of the governance and operations of associations, and are experienced Planning Day facilitators.

Through their intensive work with the associations sector, they are able to provide relevant input to Planning Day discussions based upon their experiences and observations of other organisations.

In assisting plan development, workflow starts with the ‘big picture’ i.e. why does the organisation exist, and then plans cascade down to specific details.

We develop the agenda for the Planning Day in consultation with the association and, on the day, drive discussions forward at an appropriate pace to achieve tangible results by the close of proceedings. Attendees depart with a sense of clarity and accomplishment, knowing there is shared knowledge of a common direction and next steps.

Testimonials

"On behalf of AusIMM President Colin Moorhead and the AusIMM Board, thank you for your facilitation of our Board Strategy meeting. As the Board mentioned, this was one of the most successful and productive strategy meetings we have had to date, and we look forward to taking our outcomes and building the AusIMM into the future. I enjoyed very much working with you and thank you again Denys for your role in a most successful day."
Miriam Way, Chief Operating Officer | General Manager, Professional Development, AusIMM – The Minerals Institute

"Strategic Planning can often go one of two ways - successful on the day however often quickly forgotten, or failure to make any real headway on the day itself or elsewhere. In the case of working with John from Associations Forum - it was a lasting success in another sense. I think what I appreciated the most was John's facilitation as well as his honesty and ability to be able to share his decades of experience in the Associations sector. The day was meaningful and our Board and other key stakeholders have been shaken into thinking about our future and how we need to rethink our working model."
- Greg Hughes, Chief Executive Officer, Australian Institute of Building

"Thank you for your recent discussion with the AASW Board. You impressed us all as a person with deep knowledge of the governance, dynamics and operations of not-for-profit associations."
- Prof. Karen Healy AM, President, Australian Association of Social Workers

"It was an incredibly useful planning session and thank you for helping us through it. I left the meeting feeling extremely positive about what we currently do and what we will do. I was thrilled with how the Directors were focused and how they all participated. They were very happy with how the session went and with the final product."
- Jill Brookfield, Executive Officer, Association of Accredited Certifiers

"Thank you so much for your presentation on Saturday. The new Directors, and the old ones, appreciated your work with our strategic plan and outlining the past difficulties. During our budget deliberations I put forward to the Board the suggestion of upgrading our membership to receive further benefits from Associations Forum. The Board Directors view our membership of Association Forum as a worthwhile and valued relationship."
- Sandy Amoore, President, Australian School Library Association Inc
